Since 2001, Karumbé has been developing the Program for the Rehabilitation of Sea Turtles in Uruguay. Each year, numerous sick turtles are found along the entire Uruguayan coast, with cases including hypothermia, low weight, plastic ingestion, entanglement in abandoned nets, severed fins, and damaged shells, among others.

Did you know? Karumbe means turtle in Guarani.

Cost: Visiting is free. The center is supported by donations, so you are welcome to contribute as much or as little as you wish; simply locate the donation box on your way out.

Enjoy a guided personalized tour that not only allows you to see these beautiful animals but also provides an opportunity to learn about turtles and their environment in their small yet insightful museum.

Karumbe is dedicated to safeguarding endangered biodiversity, focusing on sea turtles and their habitats. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts, they ensure these remarkable creatures return to their natural environments. Utilizing research, environmental education, and conservation initiatives, Karumbe collaborates with organizations and institutions globally to achieve their mission.
